Paper-pieced Santa's



Materials/supplies:

Sewing Machine – in good working order and manual

¼” quilting foot                                                                   Open toe or “N” foot

Schmetz Microtex or Klasse Sharps 80/12 needle (paper piecing)

Universal needle #80 or #90 (for construction)        Black thread (eyes)

Construction thread (your choice of color)                pins

Rotary cutter (new blade)                                               Cutting mat

Iron and pressing mat                                                       12 ½” square ruler

Add-A-Quarter Plus rulers (need 6” and 12”)                       stick glue or tape

Marking tool or chalk-o-liner (color that will show on your fabrics)

Light box or light for under clear Sew Steady table            

Tweezers                                                                              Diva stick/purple thang   

fabric scissors                                                                      scissors for cutting paper pencil/marker for marking eyes

***Make 1 copy from original Santa pattern (large) on paper piecing paper**

Need 5 or 7 different fabrics for Santa ornament - cut the following before class and label fabrics: Measurements are for large Santa. Medium and Mini Santa are written on the white paper copy for each one.

Fabric A – flesh tone/beige -- 3 x 3” square (fabric or canvas material)

Fabric B – White beard – 1 ¼” x 4” (4 pieces) (solid or small print or could use fuzzy/furry fabric that is not too high or too thick)

Fabric C– Black collar – 1 ¼” x 5” (4 pieces) (solid or small print)

 

 

Fabric D/E/F – Santa suit – D:   1 ¼” x 6” (4 pieces)

                                                   E:   1 ¼” x 7” (4 pieces)

                                                   F:   1 ¼” X 8” (4 pieces)

**Could be one fabric for all three sections or chose 3 different fabrics, one for each section

Fabric G – White edging of Santa suit -- 1 ½” x 9” (4 pieces) (same as for Fabric B)

Santa Hat Fabric without white trim – 9” x 9” square (could match any of the Santa Suit fabric or a different fabric)

Option: make a hat with a white trim along lower edge of hat fabric:

Fabric – 8 ½ ” x 8 ½ ” square of fabric (could use one of the fabrics used for Santa suit

White – 2 ½” x 12” (this could same as “B”/”G” fabric or one that is fuzzy/furry)

Backing Fabric and additional supplies

Fabric – 9” x 9” square (could match any of the Santa Suit fabric or a different fabric)

Batting or Fusible Fleece – 9” x 9” square

Ribbon/yarn - 9” piece of 3/8” or ¼” ribbon/yarn/twine (your choice of color – I use black for mine)
